    Please remember this Thursday is Spirit Day. Wear the school colors of your Team, either Grey Team or Maroon Team. Also, the children will recieve a hot dog lunch. If your child does not like hot dogs please send him/her to school with a lunch.

    Religion class - This month we will focus on our Blessed Mother and her love

    Exam Schedule
    for us. We will learn about Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will review how to say the Rosary and we will be saying the Rosary. The children have been and will continue to learn about Holy Eucharist. Three of our children from St. John's parish made Holy Communion on May 5th along with the third2nd grade students. We are so proud of them and know they did a wonderful job. Each day we ask The Blessed Mother to intercede for us as we continue to pray for special intentions. Let us pray for Andros' baby sister who is not feeling well. We are remembering to pray for Carynn's Pop Pop who is sick. We would like to pray for Noelle's mom who is having a baby. We are also asking the Blessed Mother to watch over Ramon's little cousin who was born premature and is in the NICU.We will continue to pray for David's friend with cancer. We are also praying to St. Lucy and asking her to help Giulianna's grandmom who just had eye surgery.
    Math class - The children are working on Fractions this week. When the children have some free time at home maybe they would like to spend it on First in Math. It's a wonderful way to practice Math skills while having FUN.
    ELA -We are also reading the fictional story Pumpkin Fiesta practicing comprehension and Fluency. Using the pumpkins from the story we weill also figure out their Geometrical shape and determin whether they have any Faces, Edges, Vertices or CornersPlease remember to ask questions about the story to your child after he/she reads to you on Wed.

    Tuesday 6/5: Religion
    & Thurs.evenings. The children should be setting aside 10 to 15 mins. each evening to read a story of his/her choice. Their vocabulary and spelling list is listed below as always on the daily homework chart.1/2 ELA exam
    Wednesday 6/6:
    Spelling rule of the week: Change the "Y" to an "i" and add es. We are woking on Possessive nouns this week also. We are also, reviewing Proper and plural nouns.ELA -The children will continue to read the story Ruth Law this week. We will make a character map about Ruth LAw. We will work on map activities where the children will practice how to get to their destinations. As always, we will be practicing comprehension and Fluency.
    Please remember to ask questions about the story to your child after he/she reads to you on Wed.
    & Thurs.evenings.
    In writing we are reviewing Topic Sentences and Facts about the Topic sentences. We will be writing about the Blessed Mother. The children are also working on a book they will give to mom on Mothers Day. The children should be setting aside 10 to 15 mins. each evening to read a story of his/her choice. The class is also working past tense verbs.
    In Social Studies we are learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, reading stories about his life and searching for important information about Dr. King on Discovery Education. The children are also working on a classroom report.In Social Studies - The children will be playing on Ben's Guide web site this week as we practice community maps and the map of the states.
    In Science we are continuing to study different kinds of trees and have just completed an information assignment finding interesting tree facts. The children really enjoyed learning new facts about trees. For example: Did you know the oldest tree on record is 4,900 yrs. old? The class then used their Subtraction

    Math skills to figure out that the tree would be 2,888 yrs older than Jesus.In Science - Earth Week, This week's Facts Find will be about the Enviroment and how we need to take care of the Earth God gave us. Each child will find a couple fun facts about the importance of taking care of our planet to write and share with their classmates. The children enjoy when we work on Facts Find. I still think their favorites though were when they researched about whales. Did you know the Blue Whale is larger than any dinosaur that ever lived? They also enjoyed finding facts about trees. For example: Did you know the oldest tree on record is 4,900 yrs. old? The class then used their Subtraction Math skills to figure out that the tree would be 2,888 yrs older than Jesus.
